Laser Pic
Engraving software wants clean black and white at a known physical size. Laser Pic gets you there from a sentence or a phone photo, with a smart prompt that explains what it decided to draw and seven conversion modes tuned for wood, slate and acrylic.

The brief
From idea to engraving-ready in one page.
Echo Moon Western burns designs into chopping boards, hats and coasters. Every design started as a fight with three different programs. We wanted one page that a maker could use on a phone in the workshop.
- Two entry points, one pipeline: generate from words or upload a photo.
- Smart prompt: a language model rewrites a rough description into an engraving-aware prompt and shows the user what it decided.
- Background removal with a server-grade BiRefNet model and an in-browser fallback, reporting which engine did the work.
- Floyd-Steinberg, Atkinson and ordered dithers, threshold, line art and shaded line art, with brightness, contrast, midtone and invert for dark materials.
- Vector SVG export by contour tracing, with correct millimetre sizing and DPI so the engraver imports it at the intended dimensions.
- LAN mode for sharing with phones in the workshop and a plain-English help page.
Under the bonnet
Small, fast, and it keeps working when a vendor goes down.
A dependency-free Python server, a vanilla JavaScript front end and an ONNX model vendored so background removal works offline. Image generation falls through OpenAI, Pollinations, the Codex image skill and a self-hosted ComfyUI with SDXL on our own GPU. Deployed to our server with a one-minute auto-deploy that refuses to overwrite a dirty checkout.
