Solutions

Things that annoy people, explained and fixed.

Every one of these starts with what is actually wrong rather than with what we would like to sell you. A fair few of the fixes cost nothing, and we say so, which is not the usual arrangement on pages with shopping links on them.

How these work

Free fixes first, shopping second.

Roughly half of what people call a hardware problem is a positioning problem, a settings problem, or a dust problem. Those get listed before anything with a price tag, because that is the honest order and because it is what we would tell you on the phone.

Where hardware genuinely is the answer, we link to a category rather than one model, since these are pages about what to look for rather than tests of specific units. The things we have personally deployed live in the reviews instead.

Guides for the bigger decisions, reviews for specific kit.

These pages fix a symptom. The guides work through a whole category properly, and the reviews cover individual products we have actually fitted.
